good news - bad news…

life, my peeps, my spoT February 27th, 2009

I’ll most definitely start with the good news -

I have a nephew!

my new nephew

my new nephew

His name is Ozzie and was born last night at 11:43pm.
8lbs even and 20 inches long
Poor kid is the only male grandchild in the family. No pressure.

The bad news might actually be good news to some of you…

Spot Of T has to go on sabbatical. I have big things brewing and no time to update for now.

If you want to find me I’ll be blogging and designing on two sites:
http://teresalea.net
http://sinclairportfolios.com

Don’t bother clicking either link, neither is up and going yet… but keep an eye out, they will both be masterpieces shortly!

I’ll still be tweeting from @teelea and @sccportfolio

i am listening already…

life November 7th, 2008

My week has been completely fucked. I apologize for my use of language (that is a lie, because I really don’t care) but the universe is clearly trying to tell me something – so I would like to tell the universe

I AM LISTENING DAMN IT – GET ON WITH IT.

In some senses it has been a great week. After all, America has our first black president – big step America, good on ya. I had almost lost hope for us and I promise I won’t move to Canada yet.

As for the rest of my week, I’ll just use this morning as an example:

I woke up at my boyfriend’s house with my phone beeping because my battery was low. Keep in mind that this is a new phone, so I didn’t realize one evening without a charge would cause the battery to die. I’m definitely not complaining about the phone, as it is awesome in so many other ways (and was free), I’m just pointing out that I didn’t realize it would be dead. But no worries, I have a car charger. I’ll charge that puppy on my way to work.

I get in my car to head to work and charge my phone and my phone won’t charge – I was upset with myself for not calling that. It’s like the 2 outer on the river – sfobv.

When I was about five minutes away from work, I decided to take another swig out of my coffee cup (this wasn’t my first swig) and for some reason my mug had decided to spontaneously dislodge the lid from the top of the cup and my entire coffee spilled straight into my lap. Not a drip folks, the entire cup.

It was clear I was going to have to keep driving and head home to change, but alas, my phone was dead and I couldn’t call my work to let them know. Of course this all happens the same week that my boss sends out an email to our group reminding us that if we are going to be more than 20 minutes late he wants to be notified. My brain immediately starts thinking of ways to let my co-workers know I’ll be late, I could call David and he can email them for me etc… but it evidently hadn’t settled in that my phone was not an option and that while in a car my telepathy powers aren’t as strong.

I get home and change my pants and undergarments (that were also soaked), grab my phone charger and shoot my work an email:

I wanted to let you all know that I’ll be in a bit late today.  My coffee mug decided to accost my jeans in the car this morning and I had to turn around and change.

I’ll be in in a few.

Thanks

I realize me emailing might make it look like a bad lie, but at this point I really don’t care. My whole week has been a series of unfortunate events – I’m still waiting for the lachrymose leeches to attack.

Update: I just reached in my purse to get out a piece of gum – it’s my last piece and I work a 10 hour day. Those of you who know me know this is a big deal – almost worse than leeches.

when i was 12ish…

life August 16th, 2008

I went to my first concert. I remember it clearly.

Dokken - Slaughter - Poison

What a fucking line up. This was almost 20 years ago, mind you.

I had big hair - my bangs were so high and hard my brother used to tease me and say it was how they invented the claw… I fell down, went boom and our garden was cultivated. I wore a black silk shirt with multi-colored polka dots and black jeans, hot - I know. I remember being hit on by multiple men that would be arrested for even looking at me, and at one point walking out of the “mosh pit” with my shirt completely unbuttoned (never did figure that one out).

Anyhow - to the point of this story.

Today is a walk back in time. I am going to Riverbend to see Poison in concert with the same person I went to see them with 20 years ago (Heather). They are playing with Dokken, and Sebastian Bach - for those of you that dont remember Sebastian, here is a welcomed reminder.

Good times people, good times.

light the night…

chariTy, life July 30th, 2008

On September 25th I will be taking part in a fundraiser for called Light the Night for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

So what do I want from you?? I want you to go to my nifty little website and donate some green backs, or better yet, go register to walk
in your town and raise even more money!! If you’re lucky enough to
live near me, our walk leaves from the Fraze Pavilion at 7:30pm
(registration starts at 5:30).

I, of course, will be walking in honor of Jill Sabsevitz - and everything I raise will be donated in her name.

So
GO DONATE, or holler at me with some ridiculous prop bet that you will
most certainly lose if that’s your style… you know I can’t turn down
a good bet!

details…

life, web design, work July 25th, 2008

I had promised details about my awesome job and never delivered. What can I say, I just liked the suspense.

I really love the job. For my career I see myself doing something much more creative than what I am required to do here. Everything we do has to conform to “standards”, but since I’ve never done anything like this, the structure is a perfect environment for learning the basics.

What I do like is the attention to detail and good web practices our department has insisted the company adopt as part of their standards. A LOT of the work I do is converting old sites into more current, clean and web friendly code.

For those of you who have NO idea what I’m talking about, I’ll give you a little example, I took this code

<.table align="center" width="100%" class="tableBorderLIGHT".>

<_tr>

<.td align="center" style="padding-left:10px;"><_a href="ME_CaseLaw.htm" target="mainFrame" class="pages">Case Law<_/a>

<_/td>

<_td align="center"><_a href="ME_statutes.htm" target="mainFrame" class="pages">Statutes<_/a>

<_td align="center"><_a href="ME_courtrules.htm" target="mainFrame" class="pages">Court Rules<_/a>

<_/td>

<_td align="center"><_a href="ME_Admin.htm" target="mainFrame" class="pages">Admin. Materials<_/a>

<_/td>

<_/tr>

<_/table>

Which is the code for the RED navigation in this picture:

And I changed that code to this:

<_table class="top_tablewidth">

<_tr>

<_td class="toplink"><_a href="ME_CaseLaw.htm" target="mainFrame" class="pages">Case Law<_/a><_/td>

<_td class="toplink"><_a href="ME_statutes.htm" target="mainFrame" class="pages">Statutes<_/a><_/td>

<_td class="toplink"><_a href="ME_courtrules.htm" target="mainFrame" class="pages">Court Rules<_/a><_/td>

<_td class="toplink"><_a href="ME_Admin.htm" target="mainFrame" class="pages">Admin. Materials<_/a><_/td>

<_/tr>

<_/table>

Which made it look like this visually

Not a lot of changes, but it looks better and fits into our web standards. This particular site had 25 pages I had to make changes to. I also made it all uniform, so the spaces between the forms were even on every page and lined up, and also made a welcome page (that you see here on the right) that logs the users by last name.

And that’s it! That is what I do all day, and I love it… for now.

I sit in a little cubical that is about 10×10 and grey.

<_offtopic>

SOMEONE JUST BROUGHT ME A PEANUT BUTTER RICE CRISPY TREAT THE SIZE OF TEXAS ON A BIG MAP.

<_/offtopic>

I have a dry erase board that I haven’t written on yet, two CSS books I checked out from the library we have on the first floor, and a little drawer I keep some files in. OOOOH and I have pushy pins, to hang random things up with. I <3 href="http://my.barackobama.com/page/content/berlinvideo/">watch this now. Mega stud’s that attract 200,000 Germans, here’s to hoping he doesn’t sell out to the man.

PS: 12 more wake ups till I leave for Atlantic City… watch out Jersey.

this is only a test…

life, web design, work July 16th, 2008

… of the emergency ‘whether or not I can blog from work’ broadcast system…

THIS IS ONLY A TEST. (aka: my boss is at lunch)

Since I’m here, let me share with you the latest things that have made me laugh. You can find them here and here.

Enjoy.

Other things of note:

  • CSS kinda makes me wanna cry occasionally, but they are tears of joy. If only I could borrow Hrbek’s brain from 8-5 M-F. WHAT SAY YOU, HRBEK??***
  • It is hard to unpack when you have no where to put things.
  • Sheila is going to help me with the above this weekend, (shhh, it’s a surprise).
  • I thought I was over it, but NOPE, I still heart men over 40. Wait a minute, I heart men under 40 too… hmmmm…
  • Right now, my left tricep is twitching.
  • Friday, poker, my place… is it in?
  • I am never going to blog in complete sentences again, unordered lists are OBV the way to go.

***So, since you’re here already… I’m currently trying to clean up some sloppy HTML in tables with CSS, but I kinda suck at CSS and know very little about it. I’ve actually managed to get thru this whole site and replace almost all the crap with smaller crap (holler!). But here’s one I can’t seem to figure out -
<_table width="188px" border="0" align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" bgcolor="#FFFFFF">
Is it even possible to create cellpadding and spacing in CSS? If so, tell me how O WISE ONE!

Tables suck btw.

suburbia…

life June 22nd, 2008

So this is it.

In a couple of hours the movers will be here. and a couple of hours after that… I’ll be a suburbian…

For the first time in my life.

Damn the man.

Damn him all to hell.

Except when I’m layin’ at the pool, then we should definitely make him a Margarita… just sayin’.

PS: before I made the move, I made it a point to go to the Dollar General store and get 3 new pair of sunglasses. The total cost? $9.00.

sunglasses…

life, random, work June 13th, 2008

I have this “thing” about sunglasses. I never buy expensive ones… and by not expensive, I mean under $10. They always seem to get ruined, somehow, some way. I would go through, at least, 10 pair a year, so why spend a lot on them?

Then, the weirdest thing happened. I went to Vegas to play in the WSOP, stopped in a little shop in the RIO right after I busted out, and bought these $5 Gucci fakes. These sunglasses broke my curse, and began my “Grand Good Run for Sunglasses”. I held onto them for two years, along with a pair of polarized glasses I found at the Dollar General store for $3.

For some reason, I can never let a good thing lie, and I had to go and buy cute sunglasses off of Overstock.com this year. They still weren’t expensive, about $20 a pair, but they were name brand glasses that I got a deal on.

What happens?

I lose my great Gucci fakes from Vegas.

I run over the new brown pair with my car, the first day I wore them.

The new black pair, I stepped on while I was at work.

The Dollar General polarized glasses? I set down next to my curling iron that just happened to be on. I still wore them that day, and then left them at someones house.

And my faithful $2 back up from Target? Crushed in my overnight bag.

This is all in a matter of 2 weeks.

What does this all mean? I have no fucking clue. What I do know is that I got my dream job this week. I was chosen to take a co-op position with THE MAN as a Web Designer.

A WEB DESIGNER. WHO KNEW.

Is this the return of the T? What will happen on these sites? Will she embed porn where no one can see? Will she have AIM access? Do they block FTP? Will the forum be blacklisted? Will she start blogging again? Has she lost her awesome sense of WIT?

So many questions, and only one way to find out. HOLLER.

PS: I put the good stuff at the end, cause only the people that love me will actually read all that crap to get to the good stuff! You know who you are, and thanks for always being there. (See, give me a job and I turn into a fraking sap…)

for the love of…

life April 17th, 2008

I broke my toe, and it hurts like hell. My girls were upstairs in the bath screaming like banchees (wtf is a banchee anyhow?) so I had to go up and set them straight. On my way down I slipped with about 5 steps left and my foot went a-flying into my elliptical machine that sits at the bottom of the stairs.

This was the result of the collision.

Photobucket

Hot, I know.

But the most exciting news of my week is that construction has started on my new home. Next time I’m over I will be snapping some pics. I had told my brother in law (Scott) that the only request I had was for my shower to have some sort of ledge in it for me to prop my foot on when I shave my legs. In my parents house there is no ledge, and the stand up shower is quite small. So… I have to take a shower and THEN go up to their bathtub and shave my legs. My mom was over there Tuesday and the first thing in is my shower, and from what I hear it has TWO SEATS in it and I can’t wait to use it!

HOLLER!
